1. What is PsycEXTRA?

    PsycEXTRA is a bibliographic and full-text database of content from a variety of credible and reputable "gray" literature sources in psychology, behavioral science, and health for research, training, self-help, and general information.

2. What is "gray" literature?
    Gray literature is generally non-scholarly material that is often not peer-reviewed and difficult to find. Sources of gray literature include newsletters, magazines, newspapers, conference papers, brochures, fact sheets, policy statements, white papers, technical reports, annual reports, and more.

3. Who produces PsycEXTRA?
    PsycINFO, a division of the American Psychological Association (APA), produces PsycEXTRA. PsycINFO is the most comprehensive and authoritative publisher of bibliographic reference sources, covering scholarly and peer-reviewed publications in psychology and related disciplines.

4. How do I submit my content to PsycEXTRA?
    You can submit your content at http://psycextra.apa.org. To sign up, go to this site, register as a content owner, and follow the easy instructions to register your content. Once you have completed the form, we will forward a coverage agreement for your signature to be faxed back to us. We will provide you with a user name and password that you can use periodically to review and update your content. Then just send us your documents as they're produced.

5. In what format should I deliver documents?
    Our preference is to have full text documents submitted to us in PDF. We realize that PDF versions may not always be available, so HTML or Word documents are also acceptable.

6. How do I deliver my content to you?
    To make it easy for you, there are various methods to deliver content to us. A URL or FTP site that we can use to access the full text is our preference or e-mail with attached documents is also okay. And, of course, postal mail or fax for non-electronic documents are acceptable.

7. Will I have access to my material after I submit it?
    PsycEXTRA will serve as repository for all your content. Once your content has been submitted, you will have access to the full text of your documents through a special content owners portal.

8. How often can I submit content?
    You can submit content as often as you like. We encourage you to keep your content current and up-to-date. When your organization publishes something new, you can just make it available to us using one of the delivery methods. If you start to publish a new document type, we'd appreciate it if you would register the new kind of publication. For example, you may have just started publishing white papers or standards. All you have to do is go to http://psycextra.apa.org and log in with your user name and password to access the content registration web page and add the new document type.

9. Not sure if you've registered a document type?
    You can check your registered content on the web site at http://psycextra.apa.org. Just click on "Review registered content."

10. Why should I submit content to PsycEXTRA?
    Including your content in PsycEXTRA will ensure that you are associated with the best psychological databases in the world. All of our products are used extensively in major libraries worldwide. PsycEXTRA will be a major finding tool for millions of professionals. PsycEXTRA will lead librarians and information professionals, as well as consumers, clinicians, and researchers to your published documents. We will help you disseminate your content to a very wide audience, including some who may not be aware that your products exist. To bring even more attention to you, we will link the users of PsycEXTRA directly to your URL for more information.

11. Why can't you just link to the content on our Web site?
    PsycEXTRA will cover content from hundreds of producers with thousands of documents. We need to be able to assure users that they will be able to obtain the documents whenever they search PsycEXTRA, regardless of changes in the original web site.

12. Is there a fee for submitting content to PsycEXTRA?
    No, there is no fee for submitting content. It is a free service to you.

13. Who will use PsycEXTRA?
    The potential users of PsycEXTRA include major research libraries, public libraries, community colleges, community mental health centers, hospitals, major psychological associations, researchers, and even the general public.

14. How many records will PsycEXTRA contain?
    PsycEXTRA is expected to launch with nearly 60,000 records. APA expects to add an additional 30,000 records or more to the database annually.

15. How often will PsycEXTRA be updated?
    PsycEXTRA will be updated on a weekly basis.

16. When will PsycEXTRA be available?
    PsycEXTRA will be launched the first quarter of 2004.

17. How will users access PsycEXTRA?
    PsycEXTRA will be available through an annual site license from APA and one vendor partner, EBSCO. We expect more than 400 institutional subscribers in addition to nearly 10,000 individual subscribers from the APA membership.

18. As a content provider, do I have access to PsycEXTRA?
    PsycEXTRA will serve as a repository for all your content. After your content has been submitted and it becomes a part of the PsycEXTRA database, you will have exclusive access to the full text through a link from the page where you register content to the database.

19. Where should I send the completed coverage agreement form?
    The Coverage Agreement form can be faxed to 1-800-878-2025.
